1954 Motorized BSA Tandem

From Bonhams auction catalog:
1954 BSA 35cc Winged Wheel and Model T94 Lady-Back Tandem
Cyclemotors were a popular means of cheap transport in the early 1950s, so it was only a matter of time before motorcycle manufacturer BSA, also one of the UK's biggest cycle makers, offered a suitable power unit. This took the form of the 'Winged Wheel', introduced in 1953. Powered by a 35cc two-stroke engine, the Winged Wheel fitted in place of a bicycle's normal rear wheel, driving the hub via gears and a clutch. The fuel tank fitted in place of the rear carrier. This Winged Wheel is fitted to a 1939 BSA Lady-Back Tandem of 20½" frame size. It is estimated that there are fewer than a dozen motorised 'vintage' tandems currently on UK roads, making this one of the most novel and interesting machines of its kind in this country. Prepared to MoT standard, it has just come out of the vendor's workshop and starts easily and runs well. Offered with photocopy instruction manual and Swansea V5C.
