World of Interiors by Anne Hardy
Anne Hardy builds fictional interiors as sets for her photographs. Rather than constructing simulacrums of private or public spaces, Anne builds rooms that seem to have a purpose in some alternate world. As voyeurs, we have all seen private bedrooms but there is something terrifically more compelling about these semi-public spaces that we imagine behind every closed door.
Everything in each image is entirely constructed. The point of the construction for me, as opposed to working with found spaces, is that what is rendered is entirely fictional. It is important to me that there is not a definitive explanation for any of these places you see in the images that is tied back to somewhere that really exists.

Harry Whittier Frees
The things we do to animals, real or only depicted. I can't look at Mainzer dressed cats without thinking of Harry Whittier Frees. There is a seemingly universal desire to see animals dressed and going about the business of their inferiors - people. From the first time you scoop the poop, the dog knows the battle has been won.

Check out the often tasteless, frequently mean, sporadically NSFW, sometimes jaw dropping and generally hilarious Flickr stream from Japanese user mmk_kobayashi.

D+R Collections: Mr. Cruickshank's Flashbulb Packaging

Friend of D+R, Rob Cruickshank, has added a collection of flashbulb packaging to the D+R Collections Flickr stream. Though the packaging is swell, I do believe Rob is buying flashbulbs to use, not just for display.

National Archive Eyewitness Documents
The National Archives Eyewitness site highlights historical events as they were recorded by the individuals that experienced them. Interesting stuff, to be sure, but the quantity of documents is a little scant.
The photo above is from a 1919 transcontinental military exercise to determine the condition of the coast to coast roadways. 29 year old Dwight D. Eisenhower was one of the observers on the trip and reported that it took a whopping 62 days over terrible roads to complete the journey. Though the mission was supposed to be self-sufficient, it would have been rude to turn down free lemonade.

Las Vegas Flickr Archive by Roadsidepictures
Though there is no shortage of Las Vegas neon on Flickr, Roadsidepictures is unique in its holistic view of the nation's most modern city. From business cards to little kids playing in turn of the century dust, it is strikingly evident that the only constant in Las Vegas is demolition.

JeongMee Yoon's Pink and Blue Project
Kids are magnets for objects. Especially plastic objects. There may be actual magnets for the industrial sorting of recyclable plastics, but I suspect that children are the most efficient tool for categorizing plastic by color. Adults, out of the noble instinct to care for those who are smaller and cuter, want children to be nourished, entertained and well-armed for battle with gender-appropriate pink toothbrushes and blue bicycles. But what if Hello Kitty was blue and Superman was pink?
Of course I am worse than all the kids combined, as I acquire at a frantic pace and have also been photographed amongst my nearly monochromatic tableau of rust and wood.
